The Michelin Guide's review
With more than 1 000 rooms, this was the largest hotel in Los Angeles at the time of its construction in 1923. Renovated on several occasions, it has retained its Renaissance-inspired wall paintings and ceilings which are the work of Giovanni Smeraldi. In the huge lounges on the ground floor, Japanese vases and antique furniture add to the impression of old-fashioned luxury. The hotel has hosted numerous major events, including eight Oscar ceremonies.
