The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1893 by Sir Arthur Blumfield, this impressive brick building covered in grey tiles is identifiable by its pepperpot towers and its streamlined gables. It houses two museums; the Department of Portraits with portraits of British musicians and the very well appointed Museum of Instruments which contains several originally private collections including a spinet which belonged to Handel and a harpsichord of Haydn.
