Situated between the Pallars Sobirà and Alt Urgell, the vast expanse of the Parque Natural del Alto Pirineo extends over almost 70 000ha. It boasts many high peaks, including the Pica d'Estats, as well as Certascan glacial lake (the largest in the Pyrenees) and the Cigalera de l'Obaga de Baleran, one of the deepest gorges in Catalonia. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife (brown bear, otter, muskrat, bearded vulture, black vulture, capercaillie etc) and criss-crossed by numerous hiking trails.
