Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
The magnificent Pontcysyllte aqueduct was built between 1795 and 1805 by the engineer Thomas Telford. One of the great monuments of the industrial age, it carries the Ellesmere Canal over the River Dee at a height of 23m. A towpath runs parallel to it across its entire length (307m). The aqueduct became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.
