The Michelin Guide's review
Originally a 13C convent, this building was transformed into a contemporary art museum in 1911. Following a fire in 1988, French architect J-M Wilmotte made it into an open-plan space, linked by footbridges, which enable the building's original structure to be seen. The museum has a collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings, principally by Portuguese artists; the works date from 1850 to the present day and are presented in rotation.
