The Michelin Guide's review
This ancient royal residence, which played host to several monarchs of the Stuart family, dominates the town and loch of Linlithgow. With numerous staircases and corridors, the layout of this vast, now roofless 15-17C building, is fascinating for the comfort and logic that went into its design. It was destroyed by the Duke of Cumberland's men, who left only the four walls and ruins that are visible today.
