The Michelin Guide's review
Built in the 1C, then remodelled and extended in the 2C and 3C, the particularly well-preserved Roman amphitheatre of Lillebonne is characteristic of such structures in northern Gaul: a large central arena surrounded by terraces of seats (cavea). A variety of shows took place here, ranging from mythological plays, gladiator combats and demonstrations by circus animals. It could seat up to 10 000 spectators.
