Dongba Culture Museum, Lijiang
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The term "dongba" is used to describe the Naxi priest-shamans, as well as the pictographic writing used by them. Based on very simplified, naive drawings, this writing has survived to the modern day, making it possible to translate the entire Naxi canon from the geba, its syllabic equivalent. The Dongba Museum presents the different aspects of this rich, complex culture through a range of exhibits, including a scroll depicting the progression of the soul, various altars, paintings of Dongba writing, a display of costumes and the crowns of the five deities.
