The Michelin Guide's review
This hospital-monastery, founded in 1242, was rebuilt in the Flemish Renaissance style from the 16C to 18C. Its museum recalls everyday monastic life down the ages and includes furniture, paintings, porcelain or gold and silverware. The church was built at the end of the patients' ward. The 19C dispensary houses the equipment used to make helkiase, a cream invented in the late 19C to treat skin diseases and ulcers.
