St Laurent's Church of Les Arques
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Sited at the heart of the village, this church is all that remains of an 11C Benedictine priory. The nave (previously longer and wider) was restored in the 20C by Russina artist Ossip Zadkine, who settled in Arques in 1934. The apse retains its original Romanesque purity. The building's most unusual feature is its arches. Two Zadkine works are in the church: a Grand Christ on the west wall and a Pietà in the crypt.
