The seat of the university was set up in the chapel of a former convent in the 16C. It still has some of the old rooms, including, a "sweating" room (on the first floor), where students waited to take their exams. The Academisch Historisch Museum (Academic Historical Museum), located in the "vaulted room" (Gewelfkamer), illustrates the history of Leiden University from 1575.
