The Michelin Guide's review
The road linking Bourg-d'Oisan and the Col du Lautaret cuts through the wild gorges of the Infernet to touch the bottom of the former glacial valley of the River Romanche. It runs alongside the impressive Chambon Dam and skirts the austere Combe de Malaval, with its larches and two waterfalls, the lovely Cascades de la Pisse and Saut de la Pucelle. Between the resort of La Grave and the Col du Lauteret, the valley widens, revealing the peaks and glaciers of the Meije. At the Col du Lauteret the peaks of the Combeynot massif appear in the foreground.
