Created in 1973, the Parc des Écrins was designated the highest European mountain by the Council of Europe. With almost 92,000ha (270,000ha with the outlying area), it is the biggest national park of France. Riddled with deep valleys, this immense mineral, plant and wildlife breeding ground features 150 peaks, some over 3,000m high, 40 glaciers and over 700km of signposted trails.
