The Michelin Guide's review
Laid out by French generals in 1914-18 to link the different valleys of the Vosges front, the Route des Crêtes is now an exceptional scenic road. Huge open spaces, forests, passes, belchens, lakes and meadows unfold in a succession of lush green landscapes that stretch from Bonhomme pass to Thann, offering a range of scenery that changes with the seasons. The highlight of the drive is the Grand Ballon, the highest peak of the Vosges (alt. 1,424m).
