Larroque-Toirac castle
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
On the cliffside, the castle rises high above the village and the Lot valley. Built in the 12C, it belonged to the Cardaillac family who distinguished themselves during the Hundred Years War in the resistance the Quercy region mounted against English domination. From the church square, a path leads to the castle, a fine example of defensive design. Its pentagonal shape was devised to better withstand the impact of rocks hurled at it from the top of the cliff.
