The Michelin Guide's review
The feudal stronghold, with its high walls, round towers, battlements with shooting holes and drawbridge, has survived intact over the centuries. Built from 1465 by Jean Bourré, Louis XI's treasurer (1423-1483), the castle is a treasure trove of antique furniture and fine tapestries; note the mille-fleurs tapestries portraying the Nine Worthies. Above all, savour the authentic atmosphere of the 15C and the Renaissance.
