Chapel of São Pedro de Balsemão
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The 17C facade hides the sanctuary which is thought to be the oldest in Portugal: Visigothic in origin from the 7C, the small low space has evidence on its walls of the re-use of Roman material. Notice the sarcophagus of Afonso Pires, the Bishop of Porto who died in 1362. It is sculpted with low-reliefs and the recumbent figure is held up by two angels.
