The Michelin Guide's review
The museum is housed in a former boathouse in the harbour. The fine collection of scrimshaws (sperm whale teeth or walrus tusks engraved with motifs) shows the evolution of this art: the first were barely sketched, while the most elaborate are sculpted in the round. The whaleboat (baleeira), a slender craft, is presented with all the equipment needed to hunt cetaceans. Don't miss the screening of a brutal but instructive film recounting the hunt as it was practised here in the 1970s.
