The Michelin Guide's review
Planted with dry forests and grassy savannah, the volcanic Caravelle peninsula boasts steep cliffs to the north and sheltered bays to the south and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. In the middle of the northern coast, the charming fishing village of Tartane is a welcoming haven. However, a line of reefs barely visible from the land lie to the extreme south, making this a hazardous stretch of coastline for ships, with many wrecks lying on the seabed in the Baie du Trésor.
