The Michelin Guide's review
Montpellier-le-Vieux is not a town but an extraordinary natural rock formation covering some 120ha; it was formed by corrosion and the effect of rainwater over the dolomite rock of the Causse Noir. Signposted footpaths and tourist train criss-cross this unique landscape made up of strangely shaped rocks with vegetation clinging to them. Some formations have even been given names such as Skittle, Crocodile, Sphinx etc. From the Rempart, there is a breathtaking view of the entire site.
