The Michelin Guide's review
Several major floods have swept away a succession of bridges spanning the Rivière de l'Est, one of the island's most turbulent rivers. This 19C suspension bridge towers 50m/164ft above the river bed (the RN 2 road crosses a more recent bridge). Framed by a large stone arch at each end, it is the island's finest structure. Since 2016, pedestrians have been prohibited from crossing the bridge.
