The Michelin Guide's review
Bordering Havana's historical centre, this vast square by the bay is dominated by the Church of St Francis of Assisi, to whom it owes its name. At its centre stands a white marble fountain, the Fuente de los Leones (Fountain of the Lions), carved by an Italian artist in 1836. The commercial buildings surrounding it, such as the former Lonja del Comercio (stock exchange) to the north, and the customs house to the east, date from the early 20C.
