The Michelin Guide's review
This young volcano that dates back some 20 000 years produces eruptions of gas, the last of which was occurred in 1959. 2 000 years ago, a second crater, Mt Akanfuji, affixed itself onto its southern side. Two paths lead up to Meakan's summit (1 499m), one being easier and quicker than the other. Whichever option you choose, the reward will be the same: a breathtaking view! Do not venture into the crater and be sure to allow 3hr to get back to Akan-kohan.
