Kyu-Hosokawa Gyobu-tei
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This 300 year-old shoin-zukuri residence (a Chinese inspired style typical of high ranking samurais' houses) was the property of the Hosokawa family, who ran Kumamoto from 1632 up to the Meiji period. With its monumental porch, Kyu-Hosokawa Gyobu-tei is a good example of the Japanese aristocratic mansions of old.
