The Michelin Guide's review
The Gothic Wawel cathedral (14C) contains many works of art, including St Stanislas' altar and King Stephen Bathory's Tomb. Sigismund Chapel is a masterpiece of Polish Renaissance; also look out for Olbracht Chapel. The Holy Cross Chapel is embellished with Byzantine-inspired frescoes (1470). Kings and their families are honoured in the crypt, raised to the rank of national pantheon in the 19C. Sigismund Tower commands an excellent view of the city.
