The Michelin Guide's review
The Wawel designates an architectural complex which rises on the summit of a small limestone hill dominating the River Vistula. Built in memory of the nation's greatest and richest eras, since the 11C this focal point of Polish nationalism has symbolised the coexistence of the Christian sanctuary and the royal castle, thus representing the marriage of religious and secular power. Also notice the equestrian statue of Tadeus Kosciuszko (1746-1817), a national hero of Poland.
