The Michelin Guide's review
If you only visit one temple in the region, then this should be it, and preferably just before sunrise. First, you'll need to climb the 1 236 steps to reach the Buddha crowning a steep hill, where your efforts will be rewarded with a spectacular view, encompassing a magnificent landscape of forest, which acts as a backdrop to Wat Tham Sua. This troglodyte complex consists of a multitude of small temples and meditation cells, all of which are located in caves dug out of the side of the rocks.
