The Michelin Guide's review
Within the walls of St Ipatiev Monastery, set on the banks of the Kostroma River, lie architectural wonders that were generously financed by the Godunov and Romanov families. These include the radiant Trinity Cathedral and its gilded onion domes, the bell tower with five rows of arches (1604) offering a fine panorama over the city, and the Palace of the Romanov boyars (1863) and its colourful façade, containing a museum devoted to the family.
