The Michelin Guide's review
At 1,000m/3,280ft above sea level on the Chojoabaru alluvial plain at the foot of the Kuju chain of mountains, this 38ha/93acre-wetland is a perfect example of a peaty mountainous landscape riddled by streams and creeks. Part of Aso-Kuju National Park, the marshes are home to many native plant species: mountain reeds, Japanese silver grass, hydrangea paniculata, Japanese black pine. A wooden footpath allows visitors to observe the native fauna and flora.
