The Michelin Guide's review
What it lacks in size this island makes up for by its stunning beauty. Phi Phi Le is surrounded by idyllic beaches - it was on the sands of Ao Maya that Leonardo DiCaprio starred in The Beach. Its caves, shaped by the sea, contain some very impressive concretions and even some prehistoric paintings, such as those in the Vikings Cave. Phi Phi Le is also famous for its swallows' nests, which are used in the preparation of a soup that is very popular in the Far East. A victim of its success, the island is regularly closed to allow it to regenerate.
