The Michelin Guide's review
During the Tokugawa Shogunate, which reigned for more than 250 years (1604-1868), the historical Nakasendo Road went through Kiso Valley. Nowadays, the villages that used to serve as post towns between Edo and Kyoto - Narai, Tsumago, Magome - present a wonderful opportunity to explore handsome traditional buildings, some restored, and to travel through this pleasant valley that stretches over some 70km in the Japan Alps.
