The Michelin Guide's review
The highly spectacular Aengus was most probably the political and religious centre of the island of Inishmore towards 1100 BCE. The impressive outline of Dún Aengus stands out on the edge of an 80m-high cliff. Composed of a triple line of walls over 5m thick, the fort is coupled with stone stakes planted in the ground at an angle to ward off attackers and slow their advance.
