The Michelin Guide's review
This is one of the oldest monuments in Khiva. The discreet entrance consists of two carved wooden shutters opening into a vast room shrouded in half-light. The ceiling is supported by a forest of more than 200 ornate columns. They were brought as presents by caravanners and are generally decorated with geometrical or plant-inspired patterns, but also with the odd Buddhist symbol, in particular swastikas. The oldest are over 1000 years old.
