The Michelin Guide's review
Originally built on the Kanoni peninsula, the ancient town of Corfu was moved in the 6C to provide protection from the invading Goths. The Byzantine town flourished inside this citadel perched atop its rock. In the 15C the Venetians reinforced the walls, encircling the land fort and the sea fort, and dug a canal. The interior was often modified. Don't miss St George's Church, built by the British in 1840, or the panoramic views from the lighthouse of the land fort.
