The Michelin Guide's review
A Frankish citadel, Chlemoutsi Castle was built in the 13C by Geoffrey I de Villehardouin. It is entered via a monumental doorway remodelled by the Turks in the 16C. The first curtain wall encloses the vast outer courtyard, while the second, designed to protect the knights' quarters, has a large vaulted porch opening. The large vaulted rooms of the seigniorial quarters still have their elegant windows and some of their chimneys. From the terraces, view over the Ionian Islands.
