Hizen Hamashuku district
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Hizen Hamashuku, a street of Kashima, was formerly a major thoroughfare for travellers who stopped at the mouth of River Hamagawa, where many ships on the Ariake Sea loaded their goods. Admire the handsome traditional white-fronted buildings with thatched or characteristic tiled roofs that remain from the Muromachi Period (15C), some of which continue to brew sake using rice from the Saga plains and pure water from Mount Taradake. Visits of breweries possible.
