The Michelin Guide's review
The name conjures up dark forests of conifers and tales of historic deeds, yet the Black Forest is surprisingly diverse in its landscapes. To the north, steep, winding roads are lined in spruce, to the centre, vineyards give way to pastureland and to the south, lakes and peaks vie for pride of place. The Black Forest is a favourite with hikers and winter sports enthusiasts as well as those who come for health and well-being reasons or just for the good food. All in all, it is hardly surprising that it is the number one tourist destination of Germany.
