Pura Sada
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Pura Sada, one of the most important temples in the region, stands in Kapal, the former capital of the Mengwi Kingdom. It is thought to date from the 13C and was destroyed by an earthquake in 1917 then rebuilt after the Second World War. Its large red-brick sanctuary-tower lends it a Javanese feel (candi), and the rows of 54 remarkable brick seats remain mysterious, although it is thought they might symbolise the servants of a Majapahit king.
