This Zen temple belongs to the Kencho-ji temple of the Rinzai school. It was founded in 1344 by Tengan Eko (1273-1335) in tribute to Ashikaga Ietoki, grand-father of Ashikaga Takauji. In addition to some lovely 14C Buddha sculptures, the temple's appeal resides in its forest of 2,000 moso bamboos, the giant variety of this woody plant.
