Holy Trinity Monastery (14C or 15C), built on an enormous pillar of rock, is a spectacular site. Walk down the path from the road before climbing the stairs carved out of the rock. Your efforts will be rewarded by the view of Kalambaka and its monasteries. According to legend it took 70 years to hoist up the building materials. The monastery has preserved its winch system, near St John the Baptist Chapel. The catholicon (church) has magnificent frescoes as well as an iconostasis covered with portable icons.
