The Michelin Guide's review
Also known as Agia Varvara, Roussanou Monastery occupies an impregnable position over a vertiginous rockface. The old system of long ladders has been replaced by a steep stairway leading to two stone bridges suspended above the void. The monastery was probably built in the 14C, and was renovated in the 16C. Its domed catholicon (church) contains some finely crafted frescoes (1561). Climb up to the top of the nearby hill for a bird's-eye view.
