The Michelin Guide's review
This "thousand and one nights"-style palace was designed by the English architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester for the Maharaja of Jodhpur Umaid Singh. The huge red sandstone residence overlooks the city and was built in Art Deco style between 1927 and 1944. It is home to around 350 rooms, which have been divided between the royal family, a small museum and a luxury hotel since the late 1970s. Take a stroll through the vast luxuriant gardens to get a proper feel for the last of the great palaces of India.
