The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1885 for a Prime Minister of Jaisalmer, the Nathmal haveli has an exceptionally delicate façade, the work of the two Silavat brothers (late 19C), each of whom sculpted one side of the building. Before going through the door guarded by two elephants, note the train, bicycle and other figurative motifs that have been curiously interwoven into the fine network of geometric carvings. The only part of the house open to the public is an attractive room on the first floor, which houses a delightful collection of objects made from camel bones.
