The Michelin Guide's review
Founded by the Greeks on the shores of Lake Sinoe in the 7C BC, this city is Romania's largest Roman archaeological site. After the Greeks came a Roman colony, but Histria was abandoned in the 7C on account of invasions and the silting up of the bay... before being rediscovered in 1914. The site has remains of baths, shops and basilicas, all surrounded by a Roman wall. Don't miss the museum (bas-reliefs, statues, amphoras...).
