The Michelin Guide's review
This island is the largest and busiest of the Aeolian Islands. It is famous for its obsidian quarries and its pumice-stone, and on account of the raids it suffered at the hands of the Barbary Pirates, like the fearsome Barbarossa. The town of Lipari is an interesting place, as is Canneto with its white beaches and steamcaves of San Calogero where water gushes out at 60° into the oldest Greek baths known to man.
