The Michelin Guide's review
The island of Ishigaki is an idyllic spot yet to be overrun by tourists. On the doorstep of the Yaeyama archipelago, it offers pretty much all the ingredients for an ideal, unpretentious holiday: pristine, natural surroundings, stunning coastline and crystal-clear waters. The only concession to modernity is the town of Ishigaki, the island's commercial hub. If you prefer to steer clear of this modern side of the island, head to the unspoiled Iriomote island, south of Ishigaki, or Taketomi island, where time seems to have stood still.
