Knossós: Royal Apartments

The Michelin Guide's review
The royal apartments occupied four floors hewn out of the hillside above the river. Light wells let in light and enabled air to circulate. A stairway leads to the living quarters, which are linked by a network of passages and corridors. An openwork partition separates the Hall of the Double Axes, which was probably the Guard Room, from the King's Room where there was a wooden throne. The Queen's Room is lit by a light well and decorated with a copy of the Dolphin Fresco.
