Wilten Stiftskirche
Michelin Guide
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Wilten abbey, entrusted to the Premonstratensians in 1128, is linked to the origins of modern Innsbruck. The distinctive, orange-coloured, roughcast Baroque façade of the 17C church curves down to the portal guarded by two painted wooden giants, Aymon and Thyrsus. In the vestibule, protected by a splendid railing adorned with intricate plant motifs, stands another wooden statue of Aymon, which is more primitive (c. 1500). The high altar boasts a handsome "Solomon's Throne" (1665).
