The square at University Park was once a Civil War drilling ground. Just north, the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza centres on the Classical Memorial Building, its south steps graced by the bronze Pro Patria. Just north, an obelisk marks Veterans Memorial Plaza. The American Legion Mall, the last memorial on Meridian Street, which features a cenotaph honouring Indiana's war dead. On the west side of Meridian, the Scottish Rite Cathedral is crowned with a 64m tower.
