Murakami Suigun Hakubutsukan
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This museum is devoted to the Murakami clan, one of the most powerful clans of the Inland Sea from the mid-14C to the mid-16C. Established over several islands between Imabari and Onomichi and in possession of a substantial fleet, the suigun (sort of coastguard) controlled all the traffic in the area. In exchange for a toll, they granted boats a right of passage and assisted with navigation. Maps, models and everyday objects illustrate this era.
